If you’re craving authentic Mexican flavors served with generous portions and a welcoming vibe, La Perla Cocina #2 in San Diego is a must-visit destination. Nestled at 1880 Grand Ave, La Perla Cocina #2 delivers an inspired menu brimming with classic Mexican fare elevated by fresh ingredients and bold, satisfying flavors.

The star of their menu is undoubtedly the burrito lineup — from the beloved Carne Asada Burrito, bursting with tender, perfectly seasoned grilled steak, to the innovative Oaxacalifornia burrito, which comes wrapped in a cheesy quesadilla shell offering a rich, indulgent twist. Diners rave about the California burrito’s balanced yet hearty portions, a perfect meal that leaves you content without being overwhelmed.

But the delights don’t stop there. The Carne Asada Fries, crowned with juicy meat, melted cheese, and fresh pico de gallo, provide a comforting, crave-worthy experience. Meanwhile, dishes like the Chilequiles with green sauce strike the perfect balance between tangy, savory, and just the right amount of spice — a vibrant plate that lingers deliciously in your memory. Pollo Asado Burritos, Beef Tacos, and Fish Tacos offer refreshing variety, while a la carte options such as the Baby Quesadilla and the rolled tacos topped with sour cream and guacamole showcase authentic touches with flair.

What truly sets La Perla Cocina #2 apart is the meticulous care in every dish’s preparation: tortillas neither too thick nor too thin, ensuring the perfect texture; sauces that deliver complex layers of flavor; and meats cooked to tender perfection. This dedication shines through in each bite, confirmed by glowing customer experiences. For instance, Renee Campo praises the chilaquiles verde with carne asada, highlighting the balanced seasoning and the memorable kick from the habanero salsa, while Carlos Moreno simply calls the carne asada burrito “so good” and intends to return.

It was fun trying the Oaxacalifornia burrito. Pretty good and giant. Pricey but it’s a shareable size which justifies it a bit. Definetly a once-a-year type treat.

Had the opportunity to try La Perla #3 earlier this year but unfortunately the way was just to long. Fast forward a few months and I had the chance to try La Perla #2. Went on during the week leading up to Thanksgiving in the middle of the afternoon and there was no waiting. Staff were very friendly and the food was great. We got their carne asada and al pastor burritos and they were phenomenal. Would highly recommend.

We got the chilaquiles verde with carne asada and it was so delicious, I’ll be thinking about them for a while. The sauce was slightly spicy, nicely seasoned, the tortillas chips were neither too thick nor too thin, so they didn’t get soggy quickly and the meat was cooked perfect. The habanero salsa was a perfect addition, spicy enough to make you warm while remaining flavorful. You can taste the love in the food. Definitely will be coming back to try more.

I’ve tried some local burritos in my area and decided to venture a little further this time because I’ve heard good things. I got the California burrito and my boyfriend got the Oaxacalifornia (which is wrapped in a quesadilla!) in the photo you can see the size difference. At first I was hungry and upset his was much bigger- But there’s no need to be!! The size of the California burrito is perfect. And for the oaxacalifornia it makes sense it’s bigger. Perfect sized burritos and the meat is unlike any I’ve had. Delicious good quality! Not to mention their salsa. So so good. If you want a filling burrito worth the money and every bite I recommend coming here. I’ll be trying their #3 location which somehow has a higher rating! This location is small with big flavor. Thank you!

Terrific Mexican street food in a casual, nondescript storefront. I was skeptical when I first saw the soupy consistency of the enchilada sauce but was won over by the delicious flavor. It also packs some heat. The beef taco was flavorful with tender meat, crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes and a spicy salsa. The green salsa is citrusy and the red salsa is smokey and rich. This place is doing something special; give it a try.
